It all started in Massachusetts
The Creation of this Little Slot car all began by finding a little $5 pull back die-cast car in a mom and pop toy shop in Massachusetts. In the midst of trying to find a real car, finding this little toy was a nice amusement while waiting patiently for the right car. A few weeks later Tiara and I found another one in blue at our local Michael's crafts. The little die-cast model by Kinsmart was nicely detailed, and the doors open as well. Most importantly it is a very good representation of a 356 at 1/32nd scale.
When I finally found the right 356 C, I went on a binge trying to find good scale representations of it.
The one thing I really wanted was a Scalextric slot car version. This didn't quite exist, the closest I found was a Ninco 1/32nd slot car, but it was not scaled correctly and looks more like a 1/28th representation. I kept looking at the $5 pull back die-cast car. The body and wheels were the right scale, and maybe I could package in the Scalextric Internals. I took apart the Blue car we had, and found the measurements would work if I could print out a small chassis. This simple design project took about 4 hours of work, and only a few iterations to get to a working car. I quickly ordered a pack of 12 cars from Kinsmart, and have decided to create a small batch of 356s on my little PLA Chassis.
Each car has a pair of drivers featuring either little Shane or little Tiara driving and little golden wolf Gatsby, open the doors for a closer look to see which of the styles your car’s interior has.
Every Car is Tested before being boxed to ensure each and every 356 Conversion works as well as a normal Scalextric slot car with digital plug port as well. Each of the limited run is available to run in the 356 CUP. A support racing series to the Gatsby Cup, all cars are equal Golden Wolf Racing 356s. Check out the results below:
The Design Process
From simply tearing apart the $5 pullback car, measuring it in 2D, to creating a full cad chassis that was able to properly hold the body
Hand Built Minatures
Each 1/32nd car is hand crafted, and put through testing to ensure it is able to drive as well as any other OEM Scalextric car. The Diecast body does add weight, but the chassis was developed to balance the car. The process of building the mini 356 C does involving dismantling a Scalextric Monte Carlo Nascar apart. The donor cars rear axle and non lit dpr plug makes it perfect for this project.
The First Production Cars
Once the design was finalized, a quick run of 18 initial cars was hand built in California
CUSTOM 356s
CUSTOM 356s
After the initial run of cars, we began to play around with how to make a custom specced car. The kinsmart cars only come in Sky blue, Creme, Brewster green, and Signal Red. To change this up, meant learning the best way to take off the paint from the diecast body
