The Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR
Created in 1997 as Mercedes-AMG’s weapon for the FIA GT Championship. Despite its name, the car shared little with the road-going CLK, instead being a purpose-built GT1 prototype with a mid-mounted 6.0-liter V12 and advanced carbon-fiber construction. The CLK GTR quickly became the dominant force in GT racing, helping Mercedes secure titles and establishing itself as one of the most successful GT1 cars of the era.
Tamiya reproduced the CLK GTR on the TA03R chassis, a rear-motor, belt-driven 4WD touring platform designed for balance and competitive handling. The TA03R’s layout gave it strong traction characteristics, while its adjustability made it a favorite among racers in the late 1990s. Matched with the highly detailed CLK GTR body, it offered both on-track performance and scale accuracy in a single package.
This build represents the striking blue Original-Teile #12 livery, complete with the distinctive exposed engine bay decal across the rear bodywork. The deep blue finish and bold sponsor markings emphasize the dramatic proportions of the CLK GTR, while the engine bay detail adds an extra layer of realism unique to this release. Combined with the TA03R chassis, it captures the spirit of Mercedes’ GT1 dominance in both form and function.
