The Porsche 911 GT1 (993)

Debuted in 1996 as Porsche’s response to the GT1 class of endurance racing. Unlike the production-based 911s that came before, the GT1 featured a mid-mounted twin-turbo flat-six, extensive use of carbon fiber, and radical aerodynamics. At its first 24 Hours of Le Mans, the GT1 immediately proved competitive, securing class honors and marking the beginning of Porsche’s successful run in the GT1 era.

Tamiya reproduced this car on the TA02SW chassis, a short wheelbase, wide-track variant of the TA02 touring platform. Its proportions suited the wide-bodied GT1 perfectly, while the proven 4WD drivetrain and adjustable suspension gave it reliable handling on track. Combined with Tamiya’s highly detailed polycarbonate shell, the kit quickly became one of the highlights of the company’s Porsche lineup.

This example is finished in the 1996 Mobil 1 Le Mans-winning livery, with its distinctive white base accented by blue, red, and black sponsor graphics. The bold Mobil branding accentuates the long, flowing lines of the GT1 body, recreating the look of one of Porsche’s most significant endurance racers. It stands as a detailed 1/10 scale tribute to a landmark moment in Porsche motorsport history.
