The Porsche 911 GT2 (993)

was the ultimate evolution of the air-cooled 911 in the mid-1990s. Designed as a homologation special for GT2 racing, it featured widened bodywork, flared arches, an aggressive aero package, and a rear-mounted twin-turbo flat-six producing fearsome power. With limited numbers built, the 993 GT2 quickly became one of the most desirable and iconic Porsche road-racers of its era.

Tamiya recreated the 993 GT2 on the TA02SW chassis, a special short-wheelbase, wide-track version of their proven TA02 touring car platform. This configuration perfectly matched the proportions of the wide-bodied Porsche, combining scale realism with capable 4WD performance. The kit included a highly detailed polycarbonate body, large rear wing, and period-correct wheels, making it one of Tamiya’s most celebrated Porsche releases.

Your build gives this classic kit a unique twist. Finished in metallic black with gold flakes, the bodywork has a deep, dramatic presence, complemented by 993 Turbo rims for added authenticity. Underneath, a Tamiya Sport-Tuned brushed motor paired with Spektrum electronics delivers smooth, reliable performance. The result is a striking blend of scale detail and personal style—an unmistakable take on one of Porsche’s greatest icons.
