Lancia 037 “J Bomb”
One of rallying’s most iconic cars, famous for being the last rear-wheel-drive machine to win the World Rally Championship in 1983. Built as a Group B contender, it paired a supercharged four-cylinder engine with lightweight construction and striking Pininfarina styling. Despite fierce competition from emerging four-wheel-drive rivals, the 037’s balance, speed, and daring drivers secured its place in motorsport history.
Tamiya recreated the 037 on the TA02-S chassis, a short-wheelbase touring platform well-suited to the car’s compact proportions. This build is configured as rear-wheel drive, echoing the drivetrain of the real rally car. Powered by a stock brushed motor, it delivers straightforward, dependable performance that stays true to both Tamiya’s kit design and the spirit of the original 037.
Instead of traditional Italian racing colors, this model wears a bold Jaegermeister-inspired orange livery, giving it a unique twist while still feeling authentic to the era of Group B sponsorship. The vivid orange bodywork makes the 037 stand out, highlighting its aggressive box flares and rally-ready stance. Combined with the TA02-S chassis, it’s a striking reinterpretation of Lancia’s legendary rally weapon.
